FAQs about Professional Christian Counseling for Women in COlorado, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, & PENNSYLVANIA
How much do sessions cost?
Individual counseling session fees are $160 for the intake session, that run 80-90 minutes, and $130 for ongoing sessions that run 50-60 minutes. Pre-marital sessions are $175 per session that run 80-90 minutes. There is a one-time $35 assessment fee with the SYMBIS assessment however I will cover that cost. Payment is due at time of session.
Do you take insurance?
I am an in-network (INN) mental health/behavioral health provider for Aetna, Kaiser, and Tricare West. All other insurances I am considered out-of-network (OON). Please know that insurance companies typically do not cover pre-marital counseling.
I see that you take my insurance, do I have to pay anything out of pocket?
Most health insurance plans have what’s called a copay, coinsurance or a deductible that applies. Although I will call to verify your health insurance benefits I highly encourage you to contact them as well. Sometimes I have found conflicting information provided to myself and the client so I believe it’s important that we are both on the same page of understanding what financial obligations you have.
I have Medicaid but you are OON. Can I pay privately?
State Medicaid laws do not permit clients to see an OON provider and pay privately, therefore I would not be permitted to provide my counseling services to you. You would have to meet with an INN Medicaid provider.
What questions do I ask my insurance regarding benefits?
Below are questions you will need answered regarding your benefits:
What mental health benefits do I have for outpatient office mental health/behavioral health sessions? (Please know some insurance companies use the term “mental health” while others use “behavioral health” to describe counseling.)
What benefits do I have for telehealth/telemental health?
Does a different health insurance company cover my outpatient office mental health/behavioral health benefits only? If so, what insurance company is that? How does that work?
Do I have a copay, coinsurance or deductible? How does that work? What do I have to pay at the time of the session?
Do I have any out-of-network (OON) benefits for outpatient office mental health/behavioral health sessions? If so, how does that work?
What are the benefits of meeting via Telehealth?
The convenience and portability that telehealth has to offer allows clients to be located anywhere in the state during their session. Clients can meet while on a break at work, in their vehicle or even in the comfort of their own backyard. I utilize a HIPAA-secure video platform called SimplePractice, which ensures access to mental health services and continuity of care, regardless of your location within the state. Feedback from my clients regarding the benefits of telehealth include saving valuable time necessary for travel, cutting down on cost for gas, traffic is avoided, childcare isn’t needed, and clients can be located anywhere in the state.
What if I go out of state?
A majority of states require the counselor to be licensed in the state where the client is located during the time of session. I am currently licensed as an LPC in Colorado, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and a LMHC in New York. If you go on vacation out of state during a scheduled session I ask that you inform me prior to the session so that we can reschedule.
How frequently do we meet?
My preference is to meet once a week on a weekly basis as I have observed clients experiencing better outcomes in meeting their counseling goals. If you prefer to meet on the same day and time of the week I will most definitely do my best to make that happen. I do understand that meeting weekly may not be feasible due to financial constraints or other commitments and that’s okay. I like to be flexible in meeting your counseling needs and together we can establish a schedule that best suits your circumstances.
How long will I be in counseling?
Many factors go into determining the length of your healing process. The power lies within you to determine what changes need to occur in order for you to decide that you’re healed and ready to graduate from counseling. Although I do believe that healthy coping skills are necessary to stabilize emotions in order to work through deep-rooted issues, I do not believe that a person can address a spiritual problem with their flesh. Healing takes time, commitment and perseverance. Growth without struggle just doesn’t exist. I’m committed to see you walk free from emotional and spiritual strongholds, the question to ask is, are you?
For pre-marital counseling the average number of sessions range from 5-8 as each couple is unique and what transpires during a session may call for additional time to work through a particular topic.
Why do you only work with women?
Upon getting married my husband and I felt it was important to put hedges of protection around our marriage. One of those hedges was no longer providing Professional Christian counseling to men and honing my focus on the counseling needs of women only.
Why wouldn’t I just meet with my pastor/priest?
You absolutely can meet with your pastor or priest. The difference in meeting with a Professional Christian counselor is the required education, licensure and ongoing training that is necessary to safely and effectively provide mental health counseling to the public. I have also found that in meeting with women they have expressed feeling more understood in my ability to connect with them as another woman and speak about their pain in a way that a man is not able to relate.
Is Professional Christian Counseling For Me?
The Bible contains practical and applicable wisdom about human nature, relationships, suffering and so much more. Professional Christian counseling marries psychology theories with Biblical truth and a relationship with God through Jesus Christ to help address the bio-psycho-social and spiritual needs of humanity. Professional Christian counseling can be effective in providing Biblical insight, support, encouragement as well as introducing new problem-solving strategies in dealing with all types of life challenges that include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, stress management, unresolved childhood traumas, parenting, relationship conflict and more. The Professional Christian counselor can provide a fresh, Biblical perspective to illuminate persistent, unhealthy thought and behavioral patterns that hinder healing.
